Conformation shows ---- IPL becomes NR-IPL

South Africa was on 24/03/2009 named as the host for the second edition of the Indian Premier League which has been shifted out of India

because of security
apprehensions.
Important Points regarding this are as follows:

  1. The decision was taken between IPL (or NRIPL) commissioner Lalit Modi and Cricket South Africa CEO Gerald Majola in Johannesburg.
  2. England was ruled out from the race of hosting on account of weather as weather will be suitable for the tournament in South Africa. Modi also thanks England for showing interest in the hosting of the tournament.
  3. The tournament will be held between April 18 and May 24, a delay of about one week from the original schedule of April 10, 2009.
  4. Six venues have been identified for staging the eight-team tournament.
  5. The matches will start at 4 pm IST and 8 pm IST to make it convenient for Indian television viewers back home.
  6. The tournament will feature 59 matches as planned.
  7. The names of the teams will not be changed and they will be same as they were in the last seasons tournaments.
